Our dog Nellie has bad knees. She was 3 years old when we first adopted her. Little did we know that her ACL was already torn on one knee and had been like that for awhile. After only having her a few weeks we took her in for TPLO surgery. This is pretty intensive and she couldn't use stairs for at least 6-8 weeks. That was 3 years ago and in the process of picking her up to carry her up and down the stairs, I threw out my back. Never had any back issues before and still have them to this day because of it. So this past summer when she needed to have the same surgery on her other knee, I wasn't going to take any chances. I built her a ramp instead. No more lifting to get up and down the stairs!
I had some extra scrap wood from fixing up the garage and a previous shelf project. A little trim, some carpet pieces from the hardware store and it was a built. A couple coats of paint and it even matched the house. I figured it was going to be up for a few months, might as well look good too. It ended up being about a 10 degree angle, which worked out just fine for a 4 legged creature and only 1.66 degrees away from ADA compliance!
